Welcome to the MobiComp smart phone Guide to the Canterbury & Whitstable Railway.
The red line on the map shows the former route of the railway, and green lines show public access routes. Where no access routes are shown, the route is on private land. Individual markers show points of interest along the route. Tap on these for more information.
When the guide is started, the map is centred on the area covered by the guide. The phone's GPS receiver is not enabled. GPS tracking may be turned on by pressing the Start Tracking button. When the GPS is on, this button changes to Stop Tracking and may be used to turn the GPS off. Your location will be shown by a light blue circle. If your location is off screen, the Where am I? button will centre the map on your current or last known location. It is recommended that you turn the GPS off when it is not needed as it greatly reduces battery life when running.
Note: the guide has only been fully tested on Android v2.2 and v2.3 devices. Problems with the popup text when a marker is tapped have been found on some iPhones.
